The conversation in brief

Too often, "training" describes a one-way transfer — expertise flowing from the institution to the community. Reciprocal learning insists on something harder and more honest: that the community is also a teacher, and that the student who cannot learn from it is not yet ready to serve it.

The question is not only what we bring to a community, but what we are willing to be changed by.
